   Welcome Address

Dear ESPN members, colleagues and friends,

As you are well aware of, pediatric care is rapidly changing, and so is pediatric neurosurgical care. In several countries, for instance, pediatric oncological care is centralized in centers treating children with cancer and brain tumors. Furthermore, pediatric neurosurgical care is progressively becoming more multidisciplinary; for example, in many procedures neurosurgeons are now accompanied and assisted by neurophysiologists.

These aspects will be addressed, among others, in the forthcoming ESPN Biennial Meeting, which will be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in a few months’ time (May 1-5, 2012). As this event is cooperation with the Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Societies for Paediatric Neurosurgery, we anticipate that many lively and interesting discussions will take place, with distinguished specialists from different backgrounds addressing issues of multidisciplinary interest, such as neuromodulation, trauma, hydrocephalus, dysraphia, peripheral nerve surgery, neuro-oncology, craniofacial malformations, etc.

The ESPN Meeting will also be a good opportunity for us to come together and share friendship in a beautiful Dutch city!

We look forward to your active participation.

Best personal regards,

Professor Pim van Ouwerkerk
